A surgeon just told me I’m twelve weeks pregnant, but then I told him the baby was his.

Three months ago, I stupidly spent one night with a surgeon at a medical conference.

He’s the only man I’ve been with in over eighteen months.

Last week, I moved across the country for a fresh start and started as a nurse at a new hospital.

The chief surgeon walked into the morning briefing and we locked eyes, because the man from that night was standing at the front of the room.

We spent three days being perfectly professional, barely making eye contact and acting like strangers.

But this morning, I passed out while making rounds and he caught me before I hit the floor.

He carried me to a patient bed and immediately ordered bloodwork.

An hour later, he walked into my room holding the lab results and closed the door behind him.

He looked at the paper, then back at me, and said,

“Did you know that you’re pregnant?”
