Journey Interior: Personal Reflections on the Inner Life within a Living Tradition
Journey Interior is a contemplative and personal exploration of the inner life —written for all who sense that what they are seeking is already present, waiting to be recognized.
Born in Northern Finland and raised within Pentecostal and Lutheran traditions, the author was trained as a theologian at the University of Helsinki with the intention of becoming a pastor in the Evangelical Lutheran Church. During these years of academic theology, an encounter with the Indian spiritual leader Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma) quietly marked a decisive turning point. What began as an interest long held in restraint gradually unfolded into a lived spiritual inquiry.
Drawn by a sense of recognition, the author moved to the ashram of Amma in Kerala, India, where she worked in the fields of development aid and sustainable development. Under the guidance of Indian monastic disciples, she was introduced to Advaita Vedanta —not as a system of belief, but as a way of living inquiry, devotion, and discernment within the disciplines of daily practice and service.
This book traces an inward movement from academic theology to experiential spirituality, reflecting on how the essence of Christianity and the non-dual insights of Advaita Vedanta illuminate one another when approached with humility and openness. Rather than presenting doctrine or instruction, these pages offer personal reflections shaped by lived practice, attentive listening, and gradual clarity.
Drawing on insights from the Upanishads , Vedantic inquiry, and everyday life, Journey Interior explores themes of recognition, service, devotion, and self-knowledge in language that is accessible and grounded. Amma’s universal emphasis on love, service, and inner freedom quietly bridges East and West, faith and reason, devotion and understanding —not as a synthesis to be achieved, but as a reality to be lived.
