The story of two female composers, both daughters of famous fathers, who deserve to be remembered in their own right. In Getting the Tempo Right Stephen Bourne explores the lives of two trailblazing British women of colour who broke down barriers in the world of music: Amanda Ira Aldridge and Avril Coleridge-Taylor.

Both Amanda and Avril were composers at a time when the world of music was dominated by men. However, in spite of their achievements, neither has been given the credit due to them. It is only now, decades after they achieved their success, that their music is becoming available again.
