As an undiagnosed AuDHD girl from a violent home, I quickly learned the skydiving community’s unwritten rules: personal responsibility meant silence, harm was laughed off, and young women were disposable. A brutal kick to the head during a swoop landing. Deliberate relational sabotage. Years of isolation while the men around me thrived. All of it buried under the sport’s bright blue skies.

At the center of it all was Dan — the Gen X skydiver who knew me before the trauma, who orbited my life for twenty-five years with magnetic patience and ambiguous signals. Raw, gritty, and gothic, Blue Skies is the story of a young girl's survival in a subculture that romanticized risk while punishing vulnerability.
